Development of NTFPs Sector for Income Generation and Environmental Conservation

Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) are amongst the key global commodi-ties and an important component of international trade. They importantin livelihoods rural people all over Himalayan region for meetingfood, medicine, construction materials, income needs subsistencecommunities. The sector focused developmental planning that canbring substantial economic environmental benefit in Uttarakhandstate. Based on extensive analysis three categories NTFPs,viz. medicinal plants, edible wild bamboo this paper highlightspotential food security, generation environ-mental conservation by adopting a pro-people approach Uttarakhand state.Suggestions have been provided improving existing framework andprogrammes can maximize economic, social, cultural ecologicalbenefits.
